Natural latex: what is it?

As a consumer, it is very difficult these days to see the forest for the trees when it comes to purchasing a new mattress. What is the perfect core for me? Will it help with my complaints? Why exactly this core?  At Tuur®, we use 100% natural latex in our cores. Not just because it is a sustainable material, but also because it is naturally antibacterial, anti-allergic, and ventilating. These are important properties for many people.

How sustainable is the production process?

Natural latex is a highly breathable and flexible raw material, perfect for enhancing your sleeping comfort. At Tuur®, we use 100% natural latex. The origin of our latex sap is in Southeast Asia. The producer of our cores purchases the latex sap exclusively through reliable channels and maintains a blacklist of regions which it does not buy from due to child labor, corruption, etc.

Our producer has more than 50 years of experience and was able to perfect the Dunlop process, thus we can talk about a Dunlop process 2.0. In fact, we refer to it as the Latexco process. This is an open-cell production process that requires up to 10 times less energy than the Talalay process. In addition, our production method uses only 2% of the water that the Talalay process uses. Did you know that our latex producer is located only 16 kilometers as the crow flies from us? At Tuur®, we operate in this way within a short supply chain!

100% natural latex, is it possible?

We can proudly say that the cores of Tuur® Mattresses, Toppers, and Pillows consist of 100% natural latex. Many players advertise with 'natural latex mattresses', but be careful about this. Many of these mattresses will still contain a significant proportion of synthetic latex.

According to European legislation, a mattress with only 40% (!) natural latex content can already receive the 'natural latex mattress' stamp. In practice, you will see that many of the 'natural latex mattresses' have an 85/15 ratio (85% natural latex, 15% synthetic latex), according to Swiss legislation to be allowed to use the term natural latex.

After years of research into natural latex and the way it can be produced, we at Tuur® discovered that a core of 100% natural latex is possible. Many players in the market advertise that a share of synthetic latex is necessary, but that is not the case. Here is Tuur® living proof of that. It is simply cheaper for producers to supplement natural latex with synthetic latex.

Tuur® chooses not to compromise on quality. Our mattresses may be a bit more expensive than some other 'natural latex' mattresses, but in return, there is the assurance that we only work with the most high-quality materials.
