Buyer's Guide
4 mistakes people make when buying a 180x200 topper
A 180x200 topper seems like a simple purchase, but there are a few pitfalls that many buyers only discover afterwards. These are the most common mistakes, and how to avoid them.
1. Buying a topper for a worn-out mattress
A 180x200 topper improves the sleeping comfort of a mattress that is still structurally sound. However, it does not fix sagging or dips, on the contrary, it follows exactly the shape of what lies beneath it. Is your mattress older than 10 years, or do you feel clear sagging? Then a new mattress is the smarter investment. Adding a topper afterwards is an excellent addition, but not the other way around.
2. Choosing the wrong thickness
The difference between the Tuur® Mono Topper (4 cm) and the Original Topper (8 cm) is more than a price difference, they serve two different purposes. The Mono adds softness. The Original adds softness and ergonomic support through 7 zones that specifically support your body at the shoulders, back and hips. If you choose purely on price without thinking about your needs, you risk ending up with a topper that feels more comfortable but still leaves you waking up with tension in your back or shoulders.
3. Forgetting split for an adjustable bed
Do you have an adjustable bed base under your 180x200 topper? Then a standard one-piece version is not a good choice. It can't bend along with the movement of the bed, causing it to wrinkle, shift and wear out faster. The split version, two separate 90x200 toppers side by side, moves smoothly with every position. A detail many buyers overlook, but one that makes a big difference in daily use.
4. Ignoring your sleep position
A 180x200 topper mattress behaves differently depending on how you sleep. Side sleepers benefit from the soft shoulder zones of the Original Topper, which reduce pressure on the shoulder and keep the spine aligned. Back sleepers tend to need firmer support under the lower back. Stomach sleepers sleep better on a slightly firmer surface. The Mono Topper is suitable for all sleep positions as an extra comfort layer, but if you have specific complaints, it pays to choose deliberately based on your sleep profile.
Frequently asked questions about topper 180x200
A topper 180x200 made from 100% natural latex lasts an average of 8 to 10 years, twice as long as a foam or memory foam topper (3–5 years). You can extend the lifespan further by rotating the topper every 3 months from head to foot end and regularly washing the removable cover at 30°C. Tuur® toppers come with a 2-year warranty.
The price of a topper 180x200 varies greatly depending on the material. Foam and memory foam toppers start around €100–€200, but last an average of 3 to 5 years. A natural latex topper 180x200 like the Tuur® Mono or Original Topper is more expensive to buy, but lasts 8 to 10 years, making the cost per year significantly lower.
That depends on what you want to achieve. A 4 cm topper, like the Tuur® Mono Topper, adds a soft comfort layer without fundamentally changing the feel of your mattress. An 8 cm topper, like the Tuur® Original Topper, noticeably changes the sleeping comfort and also adds ergonomic support. Do you have back problems or sleep on your side? Then choose 8 cm. Just want a softer top layer? Then 4 cm is sufficient.
The best topper 180x200 depends on your needs. Looking for extra softness on top of a good mattress? Then the Tuur® Mono Topper (4 cm) is the right choice. Do you suffer from pressure points at the shoulders or back, or do you want ergonomic support per body zone? Then the Tuur® Original Topper (8 cm) with 7 ergonomic zones is the better option. Both are made from 100% Eurolatex-certified natural latex, produced in our own Belgian factory.
Yes, and we recommend it. A fitted sheet protects the cover of your topper and is easier to wash. Do pay attention to the depth of your fitted sheet: the combination of mattress and topper makes your bed higher. A fitted sheet with a tuck-in depth of at least 30–35 cm is recommended. Tuur® offers fitted sheets in 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, specially matched to the sizes of our toppers and mattresses.
