Horsehair mattresses are more expensive due to the labour-intensive, artisanal production and the scarcity of the premium material - but they last 15-25 years, making the annual cost exceptionally low. 

• Each mattress is layered by hand - cannot be fully automated
• Long curled horsehair (tail/mane) is limited in availability
• Investment that pays for itself: €1,200 / 20 years = €60/year
