Frequently asked questions about spring mattresses
A high-quality pocket spring mattress lasts an average of 7 to 10 years. With a natural latex comfort layer, like the Tuur® Spring Mattress, the lifespan extends to 12 years.
• Quality of the springs (wire thickness, spring density) determines durability
• Rotate the mattress every 3 months and use a mattress protector
• Cold foam comfort layer wears out faster than natural latex, choose wisely
The best choice depends on your sleeping style. Pocket springs win on ventilation and freedom of movement; memory foam wins on pressure relief at sensitive pressure points.
• Sleeping hot or moving a lot -> pocket springs
• Sensitive shoulders/hips -> memory foam or natural latex comfort layer
• The Tuur® Spring Mattress combines the best of both: pocket spring core + 100% natural latex comfort
Yes, a high-quality pocket spring mattress with a good comfort layer is excellent for back pain. The individual springs provide zonal support exactly where your body needs it.
• Spine remains in a neutral position, both on your back and side
• Combine with natural latex comfort layer for optimal pressure relief (like Tuur® Spring)
• Unsure about firmness? Take the free Mattress Test
A slatted base with flexible slats (max. 5-6 cm spacing) or a bed frame with ventilation openings is the ideal combination for a pocket spring mattress.
• ✓ Flexible slatted base or wooden bed frame with openings
• ✗ Solid wooden board without ventilation -> moisture build-up and shorter lifespan
• Always check whether your mattress is suitable for an adjustable bed base
A pocket spring mattress also has disadvantages: honesty first.
• More motion transfer than latex or memory foam (higher spring density reduces this)
• Worn or low-quality springs can creak
• Comfort is strongly dependent on the quality of the comfort layer: the core alone is not enough
• The Tuur® Spring Mattress minimises these disadvantages with certified steel springs + natural latex comfort layer
